Finding Your Narrative...

The Back Story

I always thought that folk stories were solely based on imagination and creativity. I mean, yes that is a large part of it, but recently I found myself needing to know why we have continued throughout all of existence to keep stories alive, adapting and amending to the cultures they land in. The same lessons, the same myths, the same polarities.

The more I dive into the history of folklore, the more I see the similar patterns of stories and characters that have built today’s festivities, celebrations, rituals, habits and even perspectives. The saying “you have to see it to believe it” springs to mind (more on this later).

Not everyone enjoys the fantastical world of folklore festivities, that is noted, however whether people want to believe it or not, every part of what we are has grown from stories since a young age - how we see the world and build our social construct for example. It would be difficult to find a single human being who has not been engaged through stories, rhymes, theatre, books, movies, songs or narratives that shape us into who and what we are as communities.

This starts my journey of exploring these concepts and sharing them through my own artistic interpretation. I’m stepping out of my social comfort zone, that is, I’ll be meeting more people, asking more questions, and sharing more footage.

I want to be a part of keeping narrative alive so I will be sharing this journey by creating blogs, vlogs, stories, books and even a where-to-go guide of cultural folk festivities.
